Brett Williams Retires |
Former
Nottingham Forest full back Brett Williams has decided to call time on
his career. Williams has been with Arnold Town since 1996 and has been a
tremendous servant for the Eagles. Williams joined
Nottingham Forest in 1985 and had limited first team opportunities as he
had to live in the shadow of Stuart Pearce. He played 49 games for the
reds between 1985 and 1993, with the highlight being his appearance in
the 1992 League Cup final at Wembley. Williams made
his debut for the Eagles in August 1996 and played his last game in
October 2004. During that time he had clocked up some 285 games and
scored 46 goals along the way. Arnold Manager
Bill Brindley paid tribute to the player ‘ Brett was been with us for
9 seasons and has been a tremendous club man. He travels from his home
in the West Midlands for training and matches and will be a sad loss to
the club. He has had to call it a day due to a persistent ankle injury.
We have had our ups and downs, but I have the greatest admiration for
the player. He has played all over the field for me and has always given
110% ‘ Williams has
been both consistent and reliable on the pitch and twice won the
Supporters Club’s player of the year award. His commitment to the club
was demonstrated by the fact that he won the award in his second year
with the club and then again just last season. The player in fact
dominated the end of season presentation evening last season as he also
won the players player of the season award and the managers player of
the year trophy. Williams will
still be involved in the game as he coaches youngsters at West Midlands
schools through the football in the community scheme.
